〈Kyu-Chusha-Kokaido〉

A space where people congregate

"Kyu-Chusha-Kokaido" stands along the approach to Chusha.
It was once a community center, and still serves as a steadfast guardian of the town.
It is known locally as the “Gakushu-kan” (study hall)
where activities such as festival rehearsals and
traditional Togakushi bamboo craftwork have taken place.
We decided to revive it as a place where people congregate.
To immerse visitors in the ambience of Togakushi,
we created a minimalist space by limiting decorative elements.
From the guest rooms, one can enjoy views of the approach to the shrine
and the majestic mountains.

[ Notable attractions in the area include ]
Togakushi Shrine Chusha, thatched-roof lodging, bamboo craft stores,
soba restaurants, Kotori-ga-Ike (Little Bird Pond), Usui Shoten grocery store.

〈Kayabuki Cottage〉

A space that conveys the life of Togakushi

In the village of Houkosha, 5 minutes by car from Kyu-Chusha-Kokaido,
Kayabuki Cottage was once a traditional farmhouse.
The building, vacant for a long time,
had partially collapsed under the weight of snow.
We, along with local thatching artisans, chose to revive it as a standalone rental lodging.
A robust and beautiful space where you can feel the life of Togakushi in harmony with nature.
The house is also equipped with a kitchen and cooking utensils for simple cooking.
